Credit Union Scholarships

Waterbury CT Teachers Federal Credit Union will be awarding a total of $70,000 in scholarships for 2026. Ten scholarships will be granted to exemplary WCTFCU Members who are graduating high school seniors and are enrolled at an accredited, not-for-profit college or university as a freshman for the upcoming fall semester.

Applications are accepted through May 15th (by 5:00 p.m.), through our online application.

Winners are awarded at a ceremony in July. Members who submit an application but do not receive a scholarship, will be notified in late July.

WCTFCU Scholarship Awards

Jean O’Brien Memorial 4-Year Scholarship – $20,000 Total

This 4-year, $5,000-per-year scholarship is granted to one student who has committed to an Education Major and a career in education.

The initial $5,000 grant is given at the July Scholarship Ceremony.
To receive the next three consecutive years’ grants of $5,000 each, the recipient must submit their year-end college transcript every year, by June 15, showing that they have completed Education Major courses and maintained a satisfactory GPA.
The transcript should be accompanied by a letter, written to the Scholarship Committee, stating the student’s good standing with their college and their continued commitment to an Education Major and pursuit of a career in education.

John Fontaine Future Teachers 2 -Year Scholarship – $10,000 Total

This 2-year, $5,000-per-year scholarship is granted to one student who has committed to an Education Major and a career in education.

The initial $5,000 grant is given at the July Scholarship Ceremony.
To receive the next year’s grant of $5,000, the recipient must submit their year-end college transcript by June 15, showing that they have completed Education Major courses and maintained a satisfactory GPA.

John F. Cronan 1-Year Scholarship – $5,000 Total

Established in 2020, this one-time $5,000 scholarship is granted to an exemplary WCTFCU Member, who is a Waterbury Resident, and graduating Senior from a Waterbury Public High School (Wilby, Kennedy, Crosby, Waterbury Arts Magnet School, Waterbury Career Academy).
